:^) Perhaps he is worried that if gay marriage is allowed, then he may not be able to help himself and can get seduced by some gays.

Seriously, what the hell does "defense of marriage" mean? It is not as if straight people will suddenly go gay if it is allowed. The only true defense of marriage that I can think of is good affordable daycare and schools so as to reduce the stress on the parents. The reduced tension is then likely to keep more people married.

Republicans didn't need to force the issue because it was and is the status quo. Therefore it is the people who are pro gay marriage who are making it an issue.
