Sometimes it seems the gays are the only ones who still want to marry....

I don't think anyone knows what social changes are likely to happen as those huge numbers of children, born out of wedlock, become adults. As children grow, the family interactions are important for the way their psyche develops. The coming generations will be different, in ways we probably cannot predict. There were always people who did not grow up within a traditional family - but not in such numbers.
