What you call being unfair or closed minded is actually a matter of your not understanding social science and the role of society. You are the one with the closed mind because you refuse to look at the facts, or consider the role of society. Do you even know you live in a society?

You are presenting very simplistic ideas to me. And the fact Sowell doesn't understand such elementary facts is why I don't waste my time on him. I also don't read readers digest.

Take this statement: and we dems do not do it to get reelected, we do it because it is moral. You and sowell are projecitng.

Sowell: "How does allowing politicians to take more money in taxes from successful people, to squander in ways that will improve their own reelection prospects, make anything more "fair" for others?>>

Now he is talking about giving the money to the unwed mother. It is well known that when people get education they have less children, do not use as much welfare and commit much less crime. So it is in societies interest to get that unwed mother edcuated.

In the meantime it is not the kids fault s/he was born and a good society takes care of the children. And not only should they be fed and have medical care but free pre school. That way they have a much better chance of becoming a productive memeber of society.

As far as Romney giving money to charity. Giving money to a church is not charity.

<<He pointed out that a child born to a poor woman in the Bronx enters the world with far worse prospects than a child born to an affluent couple in Connecticut.

No one can deny that. The relevant question, however, is: How does allowing politicians to take more money in taxes from successful people, to squander in ways that will improve their own reelection prospects, make anything more "fair" for others?>>
