They could never pass a law against criticizing a religion. Introduce by regulation? Yes. But the first court case would strike it down. The Left would LOVE to pass laws restricting speech they don't like. The proof of this is on College campuses where they do stop free speech, when they can get away with it.

Islam is a hate crime it must be banned and proponents sent packing. They don't believe in the separation of church and state and only have their own agenda in mind.

Obama's AAG has never heard of the First Amendment? While testifying to the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on the Constitution, U.S. Assistant Attorney General Tom Perez refused to say that the U.S. would never advance a proposal that criminalizes the right to free speech in regards to criticizing religion.
