During any rough seas everyone is supposed to wear a lifeline that is hooked up to the stanchion lines, those are the cable lines that you typically see going around the borders of a sailboat... this guy was not hooked up and he stood up over the stern to take a leak, honestly, really very stupid and careless of him, and the boat hit a wave and he fell overboard... it was pitch black at night in the storm and no one could even hear his voice anywhere no matter how they tried... they circled with searchlights for a very long time, but the storm blew the vessel further off course and most likely further away from the guy... yes, it must have been profoundly sickening to go through... it was horrifying to hear about later that evening by our on board VHF radio... the Coast Guard also could not find him the next day...
