The most common ways of preventing erosion are to spread straw and plant a cover crop. Everything else is just some variation on that. Translation: Sow grass and clover or something like that. Trefoil, whatever. Translation: Spread straw or something on bare ground ... wood chips, rip rap, whatever. Caltrans traditional approach to stream bank stabilization has been to use standard methods like rock slope protection ... Brush layering was approximately 196 feet in length and consisted of placing layers of locally harvested willow cuttings (Salix lasiolepis-Arroyo Willow) and soil wrap (100% spun coir fiber netting) ..... Using words like riparian, buffer, bioengineering, etc doesn't make it rocket science. But how are you gonna get people to pay $10,000 for what any redneck could do for $500?
