I did all the right click and open in You Tube stuff but would prefer to not have to leave the browser to watch a video.

Much more annoying on iPad than computer for me.
I think you're talking about two different things. One is the iOS feature that takes you to the YouTube player every time you want to watch a video, when you're web browsing on the iPhone or iPad (or Touch). The other is the way some people who post videos on YouTube select the option to disable embedding, which forces you to go to the YouTube site in order to view them.

Apple could do something about the former problem, but not about the latter one.
