Jack: at some point in the future the rest of the world will catch up, if of course they do not convert to communism/fascism/etc. So at some point in the future, stocks of multinational companies may appeal as an investment to a young multinational buyer pool. It is a sad day to think of the US exporting yuppie consumer attitudes to the rest of world, but that is the only thing that will increase market share.

Hi Jack; Well said. I am going to post the quote from your bio,
it gave me quite a chuckle: Those who cannot remember
the past are doomed to make money in the market (so far).
(Apologies to Santayana).

My minor modification: Those who can remember the past
are doomed to supply those who sell puts with free income,
(at least up until the last couple months.)
Except, of
course, Victor Niederhoffer, who sold puts on the wrong
day. (A monday.) I've got his book, Education of a
Speculator
, and it makes a good read. It has a slight
reek of hubris, I'd love to see the difference if he'd written
it after he followed his own prediction: All gamblers die
broke.

Question: How far behind Japan's population bust are we?
Of course things are different there from here, but humans
will be human, and our lifetimes are comparable.

Jack, i think you mentioned you are a Grant's subsciber. I would guess he covered the dirty details of the Mexican bailout. mike
