I think (since you asked) that CDs are pretty compelling.

But I don't want to be asking people if they 'want fries with that' in my retirement.

The chart is a perfect graphical depiction of the past, but it's certainly possible that "the past won't be the future". Only time will tell.

But I see some black swans circling in the skies.
- There's the potential for an attack on Iran's nuke facilities this fall by a desperate regime seeking to be re-elected.
- There's what is referred to as the "fiscal cliff" which congressional gridlock seems to result in the inability to take action to resolve differences, and
- There's the ineptness of the current regime in understanding how the economy works and how jobs are created, or, their deliberate mucking up of the economy, the military, and the U.S. constitution.

Sure everyone knows about the above. But do they realize the consequences to the above items resolving in an adverse way? It seems to me that having a leader who hates the country and surrounds himself with those of his ilk and other corrupt officials could end any or all of the above items in an adverse outcome.

So like I say, you are a brave soul to aim for the apex of the current cyclical bull market seeing how quickly the market dropped from past peaks.

JMHO,
