If it didn't "do a lot of great things", with all the money we give it, we should replace it.

The fact that it can do these great things (in addition to all of its failures), hardly means that it will be good at doing the ordinary things, like providing TVs.

If you remember your post I replied to was itself a reply to "Dear God I hope not, we will get TV's that rarely work..."

The fact that NASA can build a successful Mars probe wouldn't imply it was good at much else, even if all the Mars probes where successful (and several where not).

Richest country in the world.

Largely because our government didn't get in the way of wealth creation as much as other countries governments.

>> the bottom line is that government does a lot of GREAT things.

I don't think anyone would argue government doesn't do a lot of great things. You've pointed to one, and there are tons more.

But the truly great things government does are outliers in a mountain of mediocrity. And almost EVERYTHING it does is mired in inefficiency and fiscal irresponsibility. No one can fix the problems, not because they are inherently difficult technical problems but because our political system is high-centered on both axles.

The only real shot at solving these problems is getting a competent president who knows how to get things done. I don't know if Romney is up to it, but I know the other guy isn't even in the ballpark.

I do wish people would put aside their ideological biases this year and think about what is right for the country rather than what they can take from it. Unfortunately, I don't see that many people willing to do this.
