I don't know how to answer your questions directly but promise I will think about them.

There's "kind of" an analog to ANCR stock in STMD.

Look at a chart and look at the price/volume today. Has a large short position as well.

I think the shorts may have gotten complacent or greedy, but who knows.

Maybe a rumor of buyout. So far I have been unable to turn up news. The volume is unusual.

Maybe ANCR could get a similar hit, I don't know.
