Your observation about buying to replace vs fixing Y2K is true. Companies who are replacing are often going with integrated packages
such as SAP.

CatLady, I say hi from NYC! I have no statistically significant evidence. I am telling you what I know from an IT friend at Gillette. They are refurbishing the house using SAP (German Co.) Peoplesoft and others and spending peanuts in legacy stuff. Moving everything to a client server setting.
