If you look at history, there was a time when communist ideas were getting some serious traction in America, in the 1930's. Collectivist notions made sense to maybe 30% of Americans and others around the globe. The 70% became VERY concerned.

In his book, "A People's History of the United States", Howard Zinn, somewhat of a collectivist himself. laments how the moment was lost when FDR created SS and other collectivist sops, and co-opted and quieted the growing movement here.

Of course, now we've "defeated" communism, the Russians and the Chinese seem to be enjoying forms of authoritarian capitalism, and the last pure communist hold outs, the Cubans and the N. Koreans, are isolated global jokes.

So, the far-far leftism that was communism isn't enjoying a happy time.
