You're right. Consider when Europe could not depend on the New World. Had only a trickle of commerce with Asia at the back of camels via Silk Rod.

Europe downloaded its population surplus to New World.

Once Europe open sea lanes, commerce could flow.

Europe could coun't with North America technological prowess plus materials availability from itself, LATAM and Africa's to end two WWs relatively quickly.

Look to China today. No need to fight wars to get materials like Japan did. Just trade. Dependence on others is good.

Of course it's not a secret to happiness, but in my view, given the conditions in which we live, it's absolutely essential to be free from the grosser forms of oppression.

Money=independence=freedom.....the rest is up to you.

Everyone's different as to the amount necessary.
