My understanding is that China is diversifying out of US Treasuries to more closely match its trade flows. Its trade with Europe is now greater than its trade with the US. Presumably it has replaced some of its dollars with Euros. Plus it has lent some of those reserves to its companies that are buying up assets around the world.
