Brad,
Can appreciate, and solidly support, the desire of SI to avoid the heavy hand or to stifle discussion. Free speech, even extreme views, are very much important to what makes SI such a mannificant success. Will take your invitation to come up with some suggestions, after I discuss with others (some of whom have suffered the abuse)..
Hope you would agree, however, that directed, Personal attacks would not generally be classified as "discussing the issues".
For illustration, briefly, the case which triggered the question was the following:
1. Individual injects personal attacks into someone else's discussion.
2. Attacked SI member responds as follows:http://www.exchange2000.com/~wsapi/investor/reply-2817687
3. To which the abuser replies:
exchange2000.com
NOTE: Attacked individual does not own the stock, was visiting a friend on the thread...
Again, Brad, thanks for responding; you and Jeff have done a super job. And it keeps getting better. Hope we can come up with some useful suggestions. Duane Olson "The Saintly One"

Okay, Brad, you've stumped me (and others). What is the intended purpose of the "jump" box around "Reply #"? I understand how how it works, but I'm not quite sure why it's there.

BTW, nice work on the "new messages" heads up.

Also, do you know that the "To link to this reply, use the following Location:" form still doesn't appear in IE? Not that I care, since I generally use NN, but there are those who prefer the browser of the 800lb gorilla.

And, lastly, have you given any thought to my earlier suggestion for a modification to the Message Manager to take the user to the last message read (or first message not read), instead if he thread header? That would have been particularly useful during the recent (albeit temporary) changes in domain name, when all of the visited links kept going fresh.

Regards,

David

To Brad Dryer:

Clarification - in message #49, I said "the 'To link to this reply, use the following Location: form still doesn't appear in IE' ". I'm still running IE 3.0. I'm told that it does appear in IE 4.x browsers. Sorry for the confusion.
