From Detroit , his two albums hardly sold here but were pirated & became the most beloved music of the the South African Aparteid movement back in the 70's listened to like a Bob Marley almost godlike . Down on his luck barely surviving he never knew of this until they searched him out finally 30yrs later & returned him to S Africa to tour to everyone's love & delight . Just amazing humble guy too , never got a royalty but who's music was the anthem of that change .

Searching for Sugar Man's Sixto Rodriguez: 'I was never lost' - video Sixto Rodriguez was a 1970s folk singer who sank into obscurity in the US, only to find out 20 years later that in South Africa he was bigger than the Rolling Stones. Rodriguez and director Malik Bendjelloul tell Xan Brooks about a new documentary about the singer's incredible story. Searching for Sugar Man is released in the UK on Friday
