See spikes of food price just before every war. That 1952 spike caused by the rebuilding after civil war is what triggered movements of independence in Africa. The fact that food prices had come down constantly - barred the sike of the oil shock (1973-1975) made the Africans relax because food was getting cheap and cheaper.
After 2002 spike they were not prepared for the increasing in costs as Arab Spring ignition showed us.
