Brazil's Cardoso says tax hike impasse resolved

BRASILIA, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso said Friday he and lawmakers in Congress had resolved their differences over a proposed increase in income tax, one of the measures included in an emergency fiscal plan.

Comment: Sounds like this may have initially been perceived as a negative, or at least scared they buyers off until further clarification. Hopefully will be a positive for early next week. Always the optimist.

Brazil shrs end down 2.33 pct in lacklustre trade

SAO PAULO, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Brazilian shares ended down 2.33 percent in slow trade Friday as investors opted to hug the sidelines amid a lack of market-moving news, brokers said. Market turnover shrunk to a meagre 426 million reais ($384 million), the lowest recorded this month so far, traders said.

''It was a slow day. Players became bearish towards the session's end when some rumours about a hike in capital gains tax were heard,'' said one trader.

Brazil's Cardoso cuts deal on austerity plan

Brazil's first private cellphone company starts up
