I am sure a good portion of the trading volume is program trading, or other forms of short term trading. If 260 million additional shares are supplied to the market, it can only be absorbed by people who buy and hold. It will take a significant price drop, or many more days of trading to absorb that kind of volume. Of course, if FB reports great numbers in October, all bets are off.

If I were a FB employee, I would certainly sell a portion of my unlocked shares as soon as possible. It can't be fun to revise downwards your payoff as the stock price drifts downward while your stocks are still subject to the lock, but your executives have had multiple opportunities to cash out before you.
