I understand ... you want it to be your choice and not some medical technician.
I've seen the deaths of my grandparents, uncles, aunts, great uncles and aunts, even a cousin and not a single one of them died after lying in bed "rotting" for extended periods, brain-dead and suffering and begging for merciful release (both things are claimed despite the logical conflict). You know, all the stuff I keep hearing cited as normal. How strange is that? A few died after spending a few days or even weeks in a hospital, but that's it. Remarkable that I've seen no need for euthanasia among my family, huh?

What I think is, once you institutionalize mercy-killing, putting people down, they'll do it all the time for no good reason. Caring for someone is distasteful and troublesome? Just let 'em die. The phrase slippery slope doesn't exist for no reason.
