If we get America in Chindia, the 3 of us will be using 2.25 X the amount of oil the world is currently pumping. Doesn't leave much for the rest of the world.

The idea is if we can raise up the Non-American's share of the pie and reduce the American's share of the pie some kind of global stasis can be achieved where we all have enough but there are no pigs. Easy to say--hard to do.

I worry abut India (the second most populous country and probably ready to overtake China soon because of no required birth control) being able to bring itself along. China is way ahead of them because it's political system says "do this" and Shazam it happens.

India, however, are experiencing political gridlock which is hampering their attempts to build out the country.

<<<I like the idea of raising people up>>>

The standard of living will be going up for the majority of mankind. How that is managed is anyone's guess, but what I am suggesting is that global competitiveness for IP and resources are realities that all nation states have to face and they better have policies in place that can benefit their own citizens(but not exclusively). For a nation state to sustain a high standard of living, they will have to continuously reinvent themselves and find ways to develop intellectual property to maintain and sustain a high standard of living.

In as far as competing for natural resources, nation states can resort to thuggery in the short term (eg Rep Party) to maintain a high standard of living or be really smart at it by develop IP that reduces waste (using energy more efficiently and /or develop intellectual property that produces energy from renewable sources. )

In any case, the standard of living for most people will be going up where there is no upper limit (only where our imagination will take us) and that is a good thing.
