I worked for four years on the Alaska Pipeline out of the laborers union, with tons of sourthern pipeliners and welders. In fact I had some very serious encounters with some hard core southern racists. I never saw anything like it in all my years in Calif growing up. After one confrontation the following happened: "I was setting 22,000 lb pipes on trucks (running up and down the stacked pipes) and the crane operator was jiggling the crane to scare me. If one had rolled on me I was dead! I went down ane told the guy: ":look I know you hate me, but you cannot kill me". He stopped.
