Midwestern folks seem more grounded compared to the northeast to me. Those big northeastern cities also have seem incredible appreciation in home values since the mid 1970's that has a lot to do with it. Easier to flash the cash or trade up when you've accumulated more equity.. When i see what RE prices currently are in parts of NYC and Boston in this 'depression, I think these people have to be nuts to be paying that kind of price.
