IMO what he said was not as near stupid as it was made out to be. A study in the 70's said about what he said but included other types of trauma as well. This was widely taught in the 70;s and early 80's. Later studies showed no reduction of pregnancies from trauma, except for rape which had lower conception rates than normal. However this was accounted for because of rapes being completely at random (whereas a fair percentage of normal conception there is an effort to conceive when the woman is most fertile) and that many rapes do not go to full orgasam of the male.

He admitted the error and IMO the Republicans should quit the circular firing squad every time their candidates commit a gaffe.
