Craig,

I agree that even if we are talking ports, if these numbers are accurate, they have done an impressive job. I hope Ancor can sell as much product.

Have you been thinking about DWDM at all lately? I have been spending more time looking at it as both a potential investment and as a threat to fibre channel. I have concluded that it may be a complementary technology. I read at least one article where ATM cell overhead was criticized and they used IP instead. Like FC it is protocol independent, and seems to me to be an ideal replacement for ATM switches at the LAN/WAN interface. It would really extend the LAN diameter for FC. I can see using a switched fabric and using the DWDM multiplexer to send out FC at full gig speed.

I have asked Ancor if this is possible. IBM currently makes DWDM devices - maybe they could partner with them.

Craig, wouldn't it be interesting to know how much of this went to Sequent Vs other OEM's or end users ? It might give a clearer picture as to just how fast FC market momentum is building and give some confirmation to the Morgan Keegan Investment Bankers view as opposed to more conservative estimates like emf & Associates.

The Brocade prospectus [when avaliable] should be very interesting reading.

Neil

Craig, re: your est for Brocade:

<Here is the way my numbers look:

12,000/16 ports = 750 switches * $30K per switch = $22.5 Million.
15,000/16 ports = 937 switches * $30K per switch = $28.1 Million.>

I would guess you need to divide this by half to reflect OEM pricing based on what Kerry has told us.

The quantities also correspond to what I think I remember someone saying from SQNT conference call - that they had shipped about 300 systems. I also remember someone saying you could have up to 8 switches, although this would be a very high-end system.
