Meathead, Austin has some of the most archiac systems in the world. Sometimes I thing Saddam is more modernized.<ggg> That's why i can write my own ticket here. The I/S professional group is almost disbanding and they have speakers like Cactus Pryor..not once but twice. The world is changing with groupware, EDI, internet, intranets, extranets,Rf data collection, touchcreens, ERP's, client server, object oreinted relational database management systems, mrpii/jit/jitii/abc/tqm/elm and we get to hear Cactus Pyror<ggggg> Don't assume the rest of the USA is the same as Austin on systems..it isn't. and, don't assume Dell is not working toward how to get a $500 home pc.... it's no sense telling the others what you are up to... surprise them. My guess when cyrx has enough chips that dell will farm out a low cost pc through another corp. and deleiver it. FIC could even do it legally. The operations Director of FIC USA is an ex Dell executive. The pc industry is one big changing animal and you are constantly doing "out of business scenarios" are you go out of business. We'll have lunch one day and I'll show you a touchscreen/Scanner factory quality data collection system on 486/33's. The only pentiums are for the Genrads where data is auto-fed to database instead of touchscreened in. The serial ports on those pc's are also beefed up. But, a real Software engr wrote the code. the kind that writes code for NASA or the Military...everything designed for speed and human- computer interface engineering. lastly, there are pcokets worldwide that want low cost pc or no pc. China is one and so is Japan... In Europe I don't think you will sell a home pc that isn't lowcost.
