More details about Maria Pantazopoulos' final moments before she was dragged into a waterfall have emerged, as the photographer's wife spoke to local media about the tragedy. Ms Pantazopoulos was standing on a rock when she slipped and fell into the Ouareau River near Dorwin Falls, north of Montreal. The 30-year-old newlywed, who was having her picture taken in her wedding dress to trash the gown, reportedly told photographer Louis Pagakis that she wanted him to take photographs of her floating in her dress. "At one point, she told him, 'I want you to take some photos of me floating in the water," Mr Pagakis' wife Anouk Benzacar told local media. Soon after entering the water Ms Pantazopoulos realised the weight of the now wet wedding dress was too heavy. The photo-shoot was part of a global trend to 'trash the Dress' where brides do stunts to destroy their wedding dress after they get married, The Daily Mail reports. Mr Pagakis jumped into the water to rescue Ms Pantazopoulos, but the weight of the soaked gown dragged them both down. "She was screaming and scratching and trying to stay above water," Benzacar said. "(Louis) tried to swim with her, but she was pulling him down. She was too heavy. He couldn't breathe anymore," she said. Provincial policeman Jean-Michel Masse said the saturated frock would have weighed over 45 kilograms. 'It was like an anvil," he said. Sgt. Ronald McInnes of the Quebec provincial police said her body was recovered about four hours after she fell into Dorwin Falls in Rawdon, north of Montreal. She slipped under the water and her body was later recovered in a basin about 30 meters away by a diver. Sgt. McInnes described the site as being quite elevated and rocky, with water "violently" rushing below. The woman was married on June 9 and was having photos taken in her dress with the picturesque falls as a backdrop. McInnes said family members and her groom were on location but not present at the photo shoot location. Two witnesses had to be taken to hospital and treated for shock. theprovince.com news.com.au
