I'm also struck by the fact that technology has opened up so much "un-explored" territory. The Peak Oilers and Greens always tried to push that we've looked at everything already and there isn't anything left.

I'll tell you something else...it's still anecdotal, but the real story with areas like the Bakken is that there are still MULTIPLE pay layers underneath that may in fact be as good or better than what is currently being exploited.

That will be the next upside surprise, IMO.

This week's Brazilian breakthrough is an example. Drilled in 2,027 metres of water to a depth of 6,213 metres, the Carcara well is in a so-called subsalt field, underneath salt layers that once hid the hydrocarbon deposits from seismologists.
