Whats App is not really a texting app, its a messaging app that happens to look like texting. It essentially relies on people having the same app at the other end (Whats App) just like iMessage relies on you having iMessage at the other end.

And whilst WA *can* send texts to non WA users, that costs money, something thats of little use to those who already have text messages tied into their mobile contract and effectively free.

Not to decry WA, it has its uses, indeed I just installed it about 2 hours ago, but its not a replacement for the stock texting app.
