I don't think anyone has ever claimed that the iPhone is perfect. I don't use one myself. But if it were the only phone on the market with pinch-to-zoom in the browser, maps and photos, I would be inclined to get one and overlook its shortcomings. Dang, I just can't get this quote thing to work on an iPad ! anyone know how? I guess my point is not that I expected the iPhone to be perfect, but I expected two things from such a prominent phone; 1. A better stock SMS application. 2. The ability to easily substitute the stock app with one from a wide choice in the app store. So, it's both a criticism and a simple expression of surprise that what was a game changer in phones, and certainly is recognised as one if the "best" phones, has so many shortcomings many of which are "baked in"
