Needless to say, the next generation of OS/2 was taken over by Microsoft and almost a decade later we see that it makes a nice application server despite it's ancient heritage, and only because it runs Windows applications. As for marketing and execution I suggest you take a look at IBM's revenues before suggesting they are doing anything but a masterful job in every segment of the business. Now, just because things are going so well and the stock is at an all time high doesn't mean they aren't going to take it up another notch with the NC. Microsoft has a lock on the only viable operating system for the wide-open PC architecture because everybody writes to their proprietary APIs for applications, tools and drivers. IBM's wealth of experience with OS/2, Taligent and Lotus are all coming together under Java.
