I thought perhaps one option might be to stuff your comments in an accepted html construct where they would be both hidden and ignored. For example:

[ url=http://www.siliconinvestor.com/msgboardmain.aspx This is hidden text ]Test[ /url ]

The "problem" is that the Editor (properly) not just ignores the text but deletes it, resulting in a conventional link such as: Test

Maybe there are other similar constructs where you can do this, but there's no guarantee the loophole that allowed it wouldn't be closed at some point.

Another option is to store all your comments on another site and include a reminder code of how to link to them. For example, maybe your full link is www. SomeOtherSite . com?comments=123. You then include a reference to "123" somewhere on the page. Only you know the full URL of where that code would unlock the applicable comments there.

To illustrate this point, say your thread header looked like this:

=====

ACME Enterprises

This company is set to explode. Get in now.

- Jeff

[28361965]

=====

Only I know that the number above references a post on the SI web site. I simply add that number onto the end of "http :// www. siliconinvestor.com/readmsg.aspx?" and I am golden. The finished URL would thus be Message 28361965

The advantage to this approach is that it works everywhere, while hidden text only works in cases where you can actually edit the post at any time, which limits you to thread headers.
