I'm getting the impression that folks on this board don't text very much...

Anyway, I get what you're saying. Having recently made the switch to S3, at first I was very disappointed with the keyboard, and then discovered that the stock keyboard is completely system-wide swappable! I dropped in SwiftKey (which eats Apple's virtual keyboard lunch, at least for my preferences) and bobs yer uncle.

Having choices is nice...

I'd say that customer satisfaction in the 80+ % range is a pretty good argument. Sure, I'm aware that more robust messaging apps exist, and I don't care. Messages is working for me, and suits my needs. Simplicity, ease of use, reliability. And if, like some ten year olds I know, I want emoticons, I can have them.
