Spending on social programs doesn't equate to care for the needy. Nearly every private charitable organization in the U.S. was begun by someone with a deep religious calling to help the needy. Raising taxes so some faceless bureaucratic can dole out a few dollars and keep people enslaved to the state is not caring. Actually changing lives, by giving both your time and energy from the heart is caring.

If government social programs equated to care for the needy, the former communist nation of the Soviet Union would have been a wonderful place for the needy. No, what you want is enslavement to government, so more power and control is in the hands of the few at the top.
