No doubt - I am certainly not saying that government taxation in any form or name is not removing capital from an economy. I do not think a vat tax is regressive - our tax system now is regressive. A vat tax treats all in the US as equals - even foreign visitors. It s just the price you pay to participate in our wonderful economy. The rest always seems to morph into cronyism and corruption - and lately class warfare - which is far from my "Portrait of an American citizen". Perhaps that is just me. Bob
