Gary,
It certainly seems like there is a whole lot of logic behind your posts and your takeover speculation. I must admit my biggest question is why, if ASND and CPQ were actually in talks, would an insider with ASND so recently been allowed to sell some of his stock. As someone else pointed out, insiders might not be able to buy when in definitive talks concerning takeover, but they are also not able to sell. How does this sale figure into your thinking and how does it effect any hypothetical timetable with regards to any merger?
Thanks

Gary,
Good Call, I belive CPQ has ambitions to become a "real" high tech company and enjoy the fat margins that come along w/ that. Even though I belive it's a mistake for CPQ to take it's eye off the ball in PC's, I think they may take a shot at being a networker. The only way they even have a chance of getting into the high end is to buy someone. ASND is the best cherry pick in the sector.

<<I'm going to spin my acquisition theory some more here. First, given the timing of the Lutz interview (11/15),
I believe that CPQ was deep in talks with ASND.

Second, in classifying ASND and CSCC as primary players in a RAS field in which CPQ wants to be
"dominant," I think that Lutz was articulating a justification for an impending move by CPQ. (The move will
have to be justified to shareholders....this was a sort of trial balloon).>>

It's a very slim chance for cpq+asnd in these days of
focusing on what one's do best. Companies large and small
are shedding off things that are not their core/expertise.
And, btw, classifying cscc and asnd as primary players in a
RAS field is totally incorrect, whoever if happened to say this
does not know the networking mkt at all let alone
thinking about competing in this field.
