I think obama will, regrettably, get re-elected. The path towards a future only an unelected bureaucratic socialist like Van Rumpoy can imagine lies clearly before us.

The Europization of the US, what a miserable prospect.

What the folks who admire and ache for such a society forget is that it kills initiative and entrepreneurship because, at bottom we're Pavlovian. Give us an incentive and the prospect of a reward and some of us will move mountains to attain the prize. Take the realistic prospect of a reward away, and we will be content with our miserable lot. We already pay huge percentages of GDP for those who refuse to do anything to improve their positions. We're already halfway to full dull gray boring bureaucratic senseless anhedonic Europization.

And, to make this rant relevant, fiat currency can be blamed for a great deal of this miserable state of affairs because politicians promise, pay and print so they can continue to promise and pay. Lather rinse repeat. There is a direct connection between fiat and an ultimate Europization of a nation. We are thankfully witnessing the results of such a failed experiment and, maybe, just maybe, we'll avoid them. But with obama's prospects being as good as they are, his second term will unfortunately only accelerate things.

Well, at least McD's 1/4 pounders might get smaller. We might have fewer people eating enormous servings of French fries. Thus fewer obese and diabetic.
