Koan,
the point is that it is not a representative sample. If they stayed within the boundaries of AAAS there is no way that they can claim that it was a random poll. Membership to AAAS is a self selecting sample and it would definitely select for liberal views. I won't call it dishonest. Just a bit sloppy as far as polling goes (and perhaps a bit lazy).

If you go to a catholic church and do a poll on abortion, do you think that you would get a representative cross section of the population?
