There is always a weak spot in all top down solutions. Maybe the RVU's were thought through very well -- but then, who will decide how many of these units must be assigned to each service or procedure? A group of bureaucrats will decide that. So, what's the point in having RVU's? The payment, ultimately, will be whatever a bunch of very unscientific, biased bureaucrats will decide it should be.

The best way to discover how to value various procedures and services would be price - expressed in dollars, and determined by free markets. But -- we are so far away from this that such a suggestion may almost seem laughable.
