There are also lots of competing products around Microsoft's in any computer store. The point is MCAF doesn't count on the retailers that much. Many PCs shipped to corporations must have certain software packages pre-installed. MCAF just needs to make sure it keeps the dominance in this playfield. If every DELL and CPQ pc always has MCAF's product pre-installed, then this is as solid a company as MSFT.

This is a commodity if there ever was one but companies like Cheyenne are leveraging the technology they use for hot backup and restore on a centrally managed network. They are still operating fairly independently after being purchased by Computer Associates. I don't think MCAF is going to last long, we're really an the verge of a meltdown, IMO.
