A way to show you really care about climate issues! Will you join the hunger strike against global warming tomorrow?
The Pissed-Off Polar Bears' 8 Day Hunger Strike Against Global Warming "A Taste of Things to Come — Famine Practice"
August 30th to September 6th, 2012
Starting in Tampa on August 30th (the last day of the Republican Convention), ending in Charlotte on September 6th (after President Obama's speech).
Heat records have been smashed, drought ravages America's croplands, but politicians from both parties, and the broadcast media, are NOT talking about the Man-Made Climate Catastrophe. Let's make 'em!
JOIN OUR HUNGER STRIKE!

Our Demands:
1—The 4 major TV network news shows (ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS) must, during a weekday evening broadcast, report on the danger posed by the vast reservoirs of frozen methane gas currently sealed under the melting permafrost, which, when released, will more than triple the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, and must include that methane traps heat 72 times greater than CO2. 2— The same TV network news shows listed above must, during a weekday evening broadcast, report on the danger posed by the nearly 50% phytoplankton die-off in the world’s warming oceans, and must include that half of the Earth’s oxygen is produced by phytoplankton. 3—The New York Times must reassign Andrew Revkin off of its DotEarth column. He has a consistent record of casting doubt upon climate science, which is fine, he can write what he wants, but as the nation’s paper of record, the Times has irresponsibly given someone completely out of step with the vast majority of climate scientists a disproportionate voice and unmerited credibility in the nation’s climate dialogue. 4—The American people must recognize the toxic role Fox News is playing in keeping our country from having an honest dialogue about climate change. So, except for the few states wherein boycotts are illegal, people must boycott any business that displays Fox News to its patrons. 5—Activists nationwide need places to go and things to do to in order to make sure that effective daily nonviolent campaigns can be enacted in the lead-up to the elections, and after. We're calling for at least 150 “Climate Dens” to be set up, at least one in every state, to provide daily support for all the organizations of this movement. If you support the idea and want to host or join a den in your state, see the instructions below. 6—Every candidate for the U.S. Senate must go on record to declare whether or not they would support the ratification of an international climate agreement, based upon the dictates of what climate scientists say must be done, not upon what the fossil fuel industry says. (We will endorse any “Yes”, regardless of party affiliation. Any non-answer will be considered a “Not willing to support”, and receive no endorsement.) 7—The next major climate summit isn’t scheduled until 2014, but recent indicators from the natural world indicate that we don’t have the luxury of waiting, we must act urgently, so President Obama must agree to call for an emergency international climate treaty summit to be held in the first half of 2013.
Donate to our nonviolent strategy for URGENT ACTION! Our goal is to force a tough international treaty in the next year and get it ratified by the Senate. This is NOT impossible, our studies of Nonviolent Struggle convince us this is doable! (Besides, it may be our last chance.)

JOIN OR START A MEETUP DEN IN YOUR AREA
Join Meetup.com to get connected with other Climate Activists in your area. The best way to do this is type Meetup.com into your browser and then click on Find A Group in the upper left corner of the main page. Then, type into the search window "Pissed-Off Polar Bears’" and your city’s name (for example "Pissed-Off Polar Bears’ West Los Angeles, CA Den"). If you don’t get a Pissed-Off Polar Bears’ Den in your area, than you get to start a Den!
Don’t get too pissed-off, starting a Den is fun and easy. You click on Start a Meetup Group and follow the instructions. Be sure to use Pissed-Off Polar Bears’ – (your community, city or town) Den. Doing this insures that you are linked and benefited the greater branded cause. A cause that is full of action and strategy. From there, put as many categories as you can that relate to our cause (such as, environment, non-violent action, climate change, and global warming). You can make questions for your Activist to answer if they choose (for example – When did you realize that Climate Change was the most dangerous threat to life on Earth?) Be sure you fill out your own profile, make Meetup events right away and put jokes in there, funny counts!
If you get into real trouble with content, go to Meetup.com search Pissed-Off Polar Bears’ West Los Angeles Den and copy and paste my content to your hearts content. This process will take about 30 minutes to 1 hour. By the way, above is the logo to use as a photo.
The only guidelines are to be a Meetup of activists, that is action makers and takers, commit to learning and adhering to strict NONVIOLENT weaponry, and be as funny as possible.
THIS WEEK'S NONVIOLENT ACTIONS (THE FUN PART!)
We're inspired by the Otpor movement in Serbia, who themselves were inspired by Monty Python!
Our dream is to top Otpor as the funniest movement in history!
Seriously!
From August 27th to 29th, we'll be in Tampa at the Republican National Convention conducting our "Going Away Party for FLORIDA!", because, of course, it will soon be underwater.
On August 30th, we begin our hunger strike, and will take it to Gainesville and Tallahassee on the 31st, Atlanta and Athens on September 1st, then Columbia, South Carolina and then Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina on the 2nd, and ending with 4 days at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte (there we'll enjoy a fully-catered hunger strike, excepting of course food).
From there we will push for Pissed-Off Polar Bear MeetUp.com "dens" to spring up from coast-to-coast, to descend upon campaign rallies to demand of the media that they pay attention to the crisis.
We want to create places nationwide where passionate nonviolent activists can work every single day to arrest climate change.
We intend to support every organization in the climate movement with their nonviolent actions, so that the movement can grow bigger and stronger and constant pressure can be brought to bear upon the industry and politicians who put the rest of us in such peril.
