Well, the comments about the 7 amputations are somewhat troubling. I agree that additional details from the company would be helpful. Still it is better to live with an amputation than to die. Here are my first thoughts in regard to this. While the fact that 7 of 25 children had amputations will not help Xoma's stock price, my guess is that it no way alters the likely efficacy of the drug. It is hard to imagine that doctors would suddenly start amputating more for those taking BPI in order to save lives than they would under other circumstances. It would seem that they would always amputate when they thought there was a reasonable expectation of helping chances of survivial. Of course any amputation is very unfortunate and moreso in the case of a child. I agree that historical comparisons would be helpful. The amputations probably do mean that BPI is not a magic cure all, but that is really too much to hope for in meningococcemia.

I thought that might throw some cold water on you guys :-) Well on the bright side we arnt the first to find this out. George,regarding meningo I think you are off a bit. Accrual is about 102 or so, however its that time of year and we have a lotta sites so 135 should be in perhaps 2 months. Then there will be a "followup and put the data together" period of perhaps 2-3 months, Soooooooo I think we are lookin at april-may before we get stop, continue or unblind. If (if) data is amazing its at least another 6 month to a year to approval. Wild card is "that new law", and its affect. Of course data may not be amazing. We dont know. Anyhow lots of stuff will happen between now and then that may affect this stock prior to any meningo result. Expect liver or gne to be upcoming items
