However, what I want most is fiscal sanity...a lowering of our deficits and a halt to the monetary profligacy of the Fed. I'm most likely to get that with Romney and Ryan. Will that come with things I don't like? Absolutely, yes. But right now, I'm willing to live with that. Honestly, I do have a problem with a lot of the government intrusion that has become glaringly obvious in the Bush and Obama years. I don't think that will get better with either party, though. One of the biggest problems I have is with the military-spy apparatus in this country and it's overreach. That is a singular recipe for a Stalinist/Nazi/Communist/Dictator type regime at some point in the future. They have already set up the apparatus for warrantless surveillance that can be used by a Dictator to silence critics. If this continues, I can see the US turning into something similar to today's Russia, where you have all the infrastructure for Democracy, but you have a Dictator in fact, Putin, who essentially runs the country and silences all critics. Remember that rock band who just got put in jail for criticizing Putin? This is what happens when you have a military-spy institution run amock. Both Bush and Obama are enabling this and are supported by Congress. Again, this isn't about whether you or I have something to hide, but rather about whether we want our government to have that kind of intrusive power, which can so easily be used by a bad President to become a Dictator. It's a darned slippery slope. Anyway, these are the things I worry about and talk alot about with my Dad. As I've disclosed before, he came from a country that was free, but became Communist. So my family is hyper-sensitive to any evidence that shows a slippage towards those kinds of powers. Most Americans think that it can't happen here. They are wrong. It can happen anywhere the population is not vigilant and rigorously defending their freedoms. That's why I harp on the Constitution so much. Obama and Bush before him have shredded the Constitution and the Rule of Law. I will keep voting against any incumbent that continues that trend, until I get a President that decides to go back to executing the law and following the Constitution. I believe Romney and Ryan are more likely to do that. Obama has already failed in this regard, continuing and expanding on the policies of Bush Jr.
