The Bureaucrats at the NC State Dept. of Education did it in the name of "efficiency". They were trying to reduce the number of requirements necessary to graduate.

Kids should be taught that we basically stole America from a bunch of stone-age tribesmen that lived here and owned the place, mainly through biological warfare, first unintended, then practiced with vigor. We then built the country by enslaving easily identified black tribes people kidnapped from their lands in Africa, forcibly imported to this country under horrible conditions, and sold into slavery if they survived the trip. Do we teach the kiddies that the capitol of our country was built with slave labor? Notice the total lack of bathroom facilities!
