***OT***Edwin, Thanks for the reference on the Roth IRA... I did find some other references as well as some on-line calculators at strong-funds.com and at trowprice.com and ran my figures through the first one. Seems to favor the Roth in my case. Will have to find out a few more details and will likely consult a tax person on this before making the change, but for persons who invest in stocks & bonds and are able to beat 10 to 12% annual return (the max allowed in the 1st calculator), then the Roth has many things going for it. One of the main considerations is that many of the arcane rules about manditory withdrawals, contribution age restrictions, and pro-rations of mixed IRAs with both deductable and non-deductable contributions are thrown out the window... that plus all future withdrawals being tax free sounds compelling to me! Best regards, Mel
