Gary,

Hope you had an excellent Thanksgiving as well. What I forgot to add in my previous post is that First Call currently has '98 @ 1.16. The whole premise to my argument (and more importantly, my reason for continuing to hold) is that this number is simply too low based on the projected growth rate. (This model assumes that top-line growth will be driven into earnings). Its only a matter of time (poss. as soon as earnings on 1/16) that we will see upgrades and earnings revisions closer to the $1.43 level for '98.

Don't get me wrong, though, I would be very pleased to see a buyout (Dec. 10, 11?) by CPQ, IBM, LU, NT, BAY, CSCO or anyone else for that matter as long as the price is near $50. There are several high-tech bargains at the moment that I would love to diversify into.

Larry

Gary,

Are insiders prevented by the SEC from borrowing against their shares?

Thanks

Gary, Compaq's reasons for Microcom purchase ---
exchange2000.com

"Together, Compaq and Microcom are the future of end-to-end
communications connectivity," said Alan Lutz, Senior Vice President
and Group General Manager, Communication Products Group, Compaq
Computer Corp. "With Microcom's superb modem and access technologies
and Compaq s volume manufacturing, channel distribution and business
model of providing industry-standard products with a low total cost
of ownership, Compaq is positioned as a powerhouse in the remote
access business.

I agree that this may not preclude CPQ from purchasing ASND, but it
should give you some ideas ----.

I sure wish that Cascade had become another CPQ Company.
My account would be in much better shape today.
