It is interesting to consider in what ways being in debt socially are similar/different to being in debt financially. I don't like either.

But to be owed a social debt always has intriguing possibilities... Of course, the receiver of a favor given can hope that he will outlive the giver, in this way, eliminating his debt.

More seriously, the big banks sitting on TARP funds might have been more motivated to lend out that money if it had carried a negative interest rate...
