japanese companies have tried to outsmart us companies many times and they have failed. they try to come up with ideas that on the surface seem to be better but in practice fail.

Sony is in a lose lose situation here. if they make it compatible with the 1.4 mb disk it is more expensive and pricing plays a key role here. if it wasn't compatible it would be just another shark, etc.
so, the only perceived advantage here is compatibility with the 1.4 mb disk, which is a non-issue.

sorry sony, you are too late. you're doing just fine by offering zip as a standard.

BTW i saw many sony computers with installed zips at Comdex.

It may matter little how clueless Eric Savitz/Barrons is...perception has been known to kick the crap out of reality from time to time...
IMO, Barrons' audience represents some clout in the market...it is not in our best interest for their view of IOM to be based on the kind of bilge we read today. I was particularly steamed that Savitz called
HiFD not a "Zip killer" but an "Iomega killer!"

I'm with Gary in thinking there might be a buying opportunity as a result of the article. The thing is...I've got enough of this stuff already that I wasn't exactly hoping for a buying opportunity just now.

My printer hates me...looks like I'm actually going to have to open the user's manual...aaaarrrgh!
