<<<<you must be the about the only libertarian type in the US to endorse a single payer health care system>>>

Pretty hard to argue with that statement.

But think about the military. Even Libertarians believe the one role that the government has a legitimate job doing is protecting Americans. I can't think of one single person who doesn't believe that - republican, democrat or libertarian. Why shouldn't it also be the role of the government then to protect us from something every bit as dangerous as an invading army? If we are indeed facing an ever greater threat from resistant microbes - which we clearly are - are we to sit back and assume private industry will provide a solution? We sure can't leave the solution to the states since all it would take is one state to fail to implement proper controls for a pandemic to spread everywhere.

This isn't a perceived threat from some wack job in a cave in Afghanistan trying to figure out how to kill us - it is a right now killer with just one resistant bug killing 30,000 a year. Less than 3,000 were killed in 9-11 and look what our response was! But ten times that number killed every year from a bug that is largely incubated in our own hospitals barely gets a mention. So yes, I'm a libertarian who believes there is little difference in protecting people from one type of terrorist to another. Since the only practical means of controlling this growing threat is through a coordinated government response - we should have socialized medicine.
